Petition to support inclusion of nuclear energy in the Canada Green Bond Framework
Canadians for Nuclear Energy is calling for the Government of Canada to reverse their decision to exclude nuclear energy from the Canada Green Bond Framework.
Nuclear energy has been excluded from the Canada Green Bond Framework. The nuclear sector is poised to lead the transformation to a clean energy future and it is important that we stand together and show our support for including nuclear energy within the Canada Green Bond Framework.

2.1.2 Exclusionary Criteria
The Government of Canada will exclude from the Eligible Green Expenditures the portion of any expenditures financed and/or refinanced by green bonds issued by Crown Corporations or other public sector entities. In addition, and in recognition of the exclusionary criteria embedded in major green bond indices and green investor and market expectations, the Government of Canada will exclude from Eligible Green Expenditures any expenditures relating to the categories identified below.
The Government of Canada recognizes that no credible plan to achieve significant emissions reductions by 2030, and net-zero emissions by 2050, can ignore the emissions-reduction and innovative potential of heavy industry, including the Canadian energy sector, nor the intersection between ambitious decarbonization and ensuring a just transition and economic opportunity for communities and individuals across Canada. The Government of Canada remains committed to supporting decarbonization, nature conservation and environmental quality in all sectors and Canadian regions.
